Chai Recipe

Take some time to quiet down. Make Chai making a meditation.

Ingredients

Water: 3/4 Cups

Chai Masala 1/4 tsp: I use my moms home made masala but it is complicated to make so buy Swad brand from the Indian store

Cardamom powder or crush 1-2 pods :1/4 tsp (available at Indian store)

Black tea leaves - 1 tsp: I like Wagh Bakri brand from Indian Store; Red Rose, Twinnings Darjeeling or any other great quality tea bag is great too

Milk 1/4-1/2 c : Your choice. If you use non dairy milk, make sure you do not boil that milk

Optional Ingredients

Fresh ginger - 1/2 inch peeled and shredded -1/4 tsp shredded

Fresh mint leaves - 6-8 leaves

Dried lemon grass : Indian store carries it - 1 tsp

Directions:

Put on your favorite music.

  1. Boil the water to a full boil

  2. Add chai masala, ginger, lemon glass and boil for 1-2 minutes

  3. Add black tea leaves and get it boiling for another 2-4 minutes until the color becomes dark

  4. Add milk (unless u are using non dairy milk then add it with the mint) and now watch it like a hawk so it doesn’t spill over. Keep removing it from the heat and bringing it back again until the concoction turns beautiful caramel brown

  5. Add mint leaves, turn off heat, cover and let it sit for a minute or two

  6. Strain and enjoy!
